We believe that a necessary condition for achieving the universal human right of a “fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal” is the right for the accused to be represented by a legal counsel

The Vigdis Freedom Foundation (VFF) is a newly established organization founded on principles of woman-to-woman solidarity and governed by the universality of human rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The Foundation exists to provide legal support and counsel to women human rights defenders who have been wrongfully accused and imprisoned and are therefore prisoners of conscience.

The Vigdis Freedom Foundation stands with and supports Eren Keskin, human rights defender and lawyer in Turkey.

The Vígdís Freedom Foundation organises and helps fund legal advice to women human rights defenders who are at risk of becoming prisoners of conscience anywhere in the world.

The foundation has the privileged opportunity to work with and support Eren Keskin, a human rights defender and lawyer in Turkey. Eren Keskin has been a target in the Turkish government’s efforts to silence any social or political opposition. She has dedicated her life to fighting for the right to the freedom of expression in Turkey, as well as dedicating herself as an ally for women survivors of abuse. Eren has been a force for peace and justice in Turkey, which was officially acknowledged in 2004 when she was awarded the Aachen Peace Prize for “her courageous efforts and activities for human rights.”

The Vigdis Foundation is also working with Aysenur Parildak and her lawyer, İrem Danacıoğlu, on her case against the injustices she has faced in prolonged arbitrary detention due to baseless charges against her. Ayşenur Parıldak was arrested on Aug. 11, 2016. She had been covering court stories for Zaman and was also a student at the law faculty of Ankara University.
